Music Monday: #OnRepeat

What’s up readers?!

Spotify is my best friend during my work day, my drive home, and when I’m relaxing in the comfort of my own room.

I love most genres of music and you can find me creating/adding different playists to my Spotify queue. I have one playlist in particular where I add newer songs that I can’t stop playing. It’s conveniently called “*****On Repeat.*****”. Note the stars in the name. They help me find the playlist easily when it’s not my Recently Played list.

Today I’d like to share the last six songs added to this list of mine.

“I’ll Find You” Lecrae feat. Tori Kelly

When I first heard this song on the “New Music Friday” playlist many weeks ago, I thought it was so beautiful. I’ve been a fan of Tori Kelly and her angelic voice since her YouTube days, so naturally I was curious to see what new music she had out. Despite not knowing who Lecrae was, I gave it a listen. Around the time this song was released, I was not feeling like myself. As I listened to the lyrics, I felt like it was very encouraging and hope. I felt like it was a reminder I needed. Also, the music video is heartbreaking.

“Attention – Acoustic Version” by Charlie Puth

The original version of this song was on my playlist after it was released in April, but if you know me, you know I’m a sucker for anything acoustic. I’m also a sucker for songs by Charlie Puth. In my opinion, he’s a great song writer and knows how to portray exactly what he’s feeling. Now when I first heard this song, I immediately though it was about his drama with Bella Thorne, bur he says it’s inspired by something he saw on IG. What a coincidence. Anyways, the song is super catchy and there’s so much shade.

“Hear Me” by DJ Luane & Mecha feat. Rhian Ramos

I have a love for Rhian Ramos, so naturally I’m here to support her. When this song was released I was super excited to hear it since it was Rhian’s first single. It was an unexpected release, but I knew she was working on something huge for herself and her fans. I was very proud of what I heard. Her voice suits this song and it’s much more sweeter knowing she’s worked hard to put some music out there. This song definitely has me bobbing my head and dancing a lot to it whenever it comes on. I can’t wait to hear what’s next.

“Wild Thoughts” by DJ Khaled feat. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller

I’m in love with this song. I love that DJ Khaled sampled the Santana song, “Maria Maria” because I fell in love to the sounds of the guitar played by Carlos Santana. The song is super sexy, I’m sure everyone has wild thoughts about it. Okay, I’ll stop. There was a week where this song was literally on repeat that I even browsed YouTube videos of choreography to this song.

“Nobody Has to Know” by Timeflies

This isn’t the only Timeflies song on this playlist, but it’s the latest. These guys know the way to my heart with the cutest lyrics. I’m sure they weren’t going for cute, but they got me feeling all kinds of butterflies. Apparently this song was released on their YouTube channel back in February just in time for the lovers on Valentine’s Day. But it was just released on Spotify last week! The piano & the beat are perfect since it’s not really a super sappy love song. Ya’ll have to know about this song!

“Back to You” by Louis Tomlinson feat. Bebe Rehxa & Cheat Codes

Soo if I had a favorite One Direction member it would have been Louis Tomlinson. Some people judge me for that, but I thought he was the cutest, plus I didn’t have to fight much with friends about it since they loved Harry or Zayn. Anyways, it’s great seeing them doing their own things. Louis wrote a lot of 1D songs and continues to write music. I think he’s so underrated. But then again I don’t know much about him. Honestly, I didn’t really care for his first song with Steve Aoki, but this song is fire. The beat is fun and upbeat, you almost forget that it’s about a toxic relationship. It was the latest song added to my playlist and it will be on repeat for the next few days/weeks!

Bonus round: A song that’s not on this playlist, but on repeat is “Two Less Lonely People in the World” by Air Supply. I don’t know how or why I had the urge to listen to Air Supply/this song, but I’ve been belting on car rides and in the shower. I don’t even have feelings right now, but it just keeps me on my toes. I even turned on my magic mic (karaoke) a few times just to sing about two less lonely people in the world.

What new songs are on your “on repeat” playlist?

My List of Travel Essentials

Very rarely do I get to travel, but when I do you better believe I have an idea of what I’ll be doing. I love making lists and itineraries even though I may not follow them exactly as they are written or follow them at all. Yes, I still use a pen and paper to write lists. Sometimes I use the Notes app on the iPhone, but nothing makes me feel more accomplished than when I cross something off my little written lists.

Not only do I try to make itineraries, I make a list of things to pack. My lists vary depending on where I’m going and how long I’ll be there, so today’s post is dedicated to travel essentials.

If you’re traveling domestic for a few days, like a weekend getaway, here’s what I recommend to bring in your luggage:

  • Clothes
    • Four different outfits
      • 2 day outfits for your day adventures
      • 2 night outfits – Chances are you’ll be going out and having a nice dinner or checking out a little bar. You definitely don’t want to go out in your day outfit. You can if you want, but don’t you want to look fresh and dressed up for the occasion?
    • Undergarments
      • This should be self explanatory, but sometimes people forget..
    • Shoes! Have at least two options. Tennis shoes and a little black dress don’t always go together.
    • Bathing Suit
      • If you’re going somewhere tropical I imagine you’ll be chilling at the beach or at a really nice resort pool, so be prepared!
    • PJs
      • Try to change out of your clothes and into some comfortable PJs when you come home at 2 a.m.

If you’re traveling to another state or country for more than the weekend, then bring outfits to last at least one week. After one week, then you could always wash your clothes and mix and match.

  • Accessories
    • Jewelry to pair with your outfits – I’m pretty minimum when it comes to jewelry, but I always try to bring a necklace or two.
    • Sunglasses/glasses/contacts
      • If you have glasses or contacts, don’t forget them. You want to be able to see the beautiful places you visit.
      • Protect your eyes!
    • Purse and/or clutch
  • Beauty and Health products – Just because your away from home doesn’t mean you have to forget your daily routines when it comes to hygiene! Also note, there are travel size things of a lot of products!
    • Shampoo + Conditioner
      • Dry Shampoo is a must for those days you don’t feel like washing your hair or for those times you may not have a shower around.
    • Soap
    • Lotion
    • Moisturizer
    • Face wash
    • Cotton swabs/balls
    • Hand sanitizer
    • Toothbrush + Toothpaste + Floss
    • Hairbrush
    • Hairspray
    • Sunscreen
    • Your basic make up essentials
      • primer
      • foundation
      • powder
      • concealer
      • eye liner
      • eyeshadow
      • mascara
      • blush
      • make up remover
    • Body spray/perfume
    • Deodorant
    • Repellent

Aside from my checked-in luggage, I usually have my carry-on and/or backpack. This is what I usually carry along with me:

  • Passport and personal IDs
  • Cash and credit cards.
    • Cash isn’t always ideal, but if you’re going to another country you definitely want to tip the people who help you in the airport
  • Wallet to carry the above
  • Flight itinerary and tickets
  • Converter for international travelers
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Prescriptions
  • First Aid Kit
  • Glasses/Sunglasses
  • Pocket Tissue
  • Feminine products
  • Cell Phone and charger
  • Portable charger
  • Laptop and charger
  • Headphones
  • Camera
  • Keys
  • Water Bottle
  • Snacks

I’m definitely someone who overpacks. There are times where I come home without using a certain outfit or product. But I think it’s better to over pack than to worry about buying something in another place because you forgot it at home. Just make sure you don’t go over the weight limit!

I won’t be traveling any time soon, but at least I’ll be prepared with this list!

Did I forget something? What things do you ALWAYS travel with?

My Most Used Mobile Apps

As a follow up on yesterday’s social media post, I figured I’d continue on with a similar theme.

Most people spend more than 2 hours on their mobile phone over span of one day. I know I do. Do you? Be honest. My phone is an extension of my body. It’s sad to think about that, but if I’m without my phone, I feel disconnected from the world and I always think the worst. Like what if I get into an accident or what if someone is trying to get a hold of me in case of emergency? It’s the world at the palm of my hands and I definitely don’t want to miss my favorite actress post her #OOTD.

It also doesn’t help that I don’t have a great internet connection at home. I hardly use my laptop at home because I’m on a shared network and it’s not ideal for the things I want to do. I miss having my own home, but I digress. Also at work, there are some things I’d rather search on my own device than on my work PC. Yes, I’m talking about those embarassing “how to” searches on Google!

But jokes aside, I was curious to see what apps I use the most. As of 7:08 P.M. here’s what drained my battery today.

  • FREEFORM: Now I know for a fact that I don’t use the Freeform app all the time. I’m 2 episodes behind on The Bold Type and I was catching up earlier today. I’m actually really loving this show, but that’s for another time. When PLL on, I’d rewatch the recent episodes on the app as well.
  • SAFARI: It’s the iOs internet browser. Who doesn’t use this? Earlier today, I looked up guitar chords. I definitely use Safari a lot for random searches and when I click on those random links in my social feeds.
  • FACEBOOK: Yeah, I like to catch up on your lives. I also like to watch the videos that go viral. Everybody loves a good laugh.
  • SCORE! HERO: Once in a while I’ll get addicted to mobile games. This is my latest obsession. I don’t even like soccer that much, but this game is so addicting and with some in-purchase-apps, I’m sure I’ve spent at least $10 since I’ve downloaded it. $2.99 gets you unlimited life for 24 hours so you don’t have to watch ads to keep playing.
  • INSTAGRAM: Stepping up my IG game, means I’m on it A LOT. I love keeping up with my favorite personalities, so you’ll probably see me double tapping in the morning before work, during work, after work, & right before I sleep. Then repeat.
  • SPOTIFY: I definitely use Spotify more on the PC, but whenever I’m driving, I have my Spotify playlists going. Listening to the radio, gets repetitive and I’d rather listen to a playlist of my own repetitive songs.
  • REDFIN: I definitely want to become a homeowner. It probably won’t happen any time soon, but I love looking at houses on the market and the prices they go for. Also, you don’t really know what your dream house looks like until you see an example.
  • SNAPCHAT: There are times where I’m obsessed with Snapchat, but there are times where I’m tired of it. At this time, I’m not that into it, but occasionally I’ll open it up and see what filters are available.
  • TWITTER: I have two separate twitter accounts: a personal one and one where I can fangirl, live tweet, and be me. No one I know personally follows my fangirl account and that’s great. I can tweet away without judgement.
  • MAIL: All my emails in one place is ideal. Very rarely do I check my email on the PC, since it’s so easy to set up my emails on my phone.
  • WORDPRESS: I’ve been writing a lot of my blog posts on the WordPress app. It allows me to write on the go, since I’m not sitting at my computer 24 hours a day. If I’m at the laundry mat, I can just open the app and write away while waiting for my clothes to wash/dry. Because I’m on my social networks on my phone, it’s really easy to share my WordPress posts on these apps as well!

Mobile apps make everything so accessible. You’re not always going to have you PC or tablet with you. You won’t even have WiFi as well! So if anything comes up, all you need to do is bust out your mobile phone and voila! You can listen to your favorite music or follow your favorite celebrities and not miss a heartbeat.

Check out your phone! What apps drain your battery?

A Timeline of Social Networks

No matter where you are, you can easily find someone snapping a selfie or updating their status. Social media takes someone like me from California and allows me to see what my friends and family are doing in other parts of the world. It’s safe to say that the majority of society is immersed in social media and it’s so interesting to see how far social networks have come over the past 15+ years.

But what is a social network?  It’s basically all the people you interact with and form relationships with. In the sense I’m writing about, a social network can be defined as a “dedicated website or other application that enables users to communicate with each other by posting information, comments, messages, images, etc.” We have so many different apps that allow us to interact with those we want to interact with.

The first social media website I remember was AsianAvenue, a website for the Asian American Community. According to Wiki, it was launched in 1997. I was 8. I don’t think I was on AsianAvenue until I was in middle school. Keep in mind I was between 10-13 years old and I was talking to people who went to my school and to people who lived in other states. It’s so weird to think how I was so open with people online, but now I get creeped out. Hell, I’m not even open with the people I do know now.

Then there was Friendster. It was founded in 2002. I was 13 years old and per the terms of service, I was not old enough to be on this website. I don’t really remember much about it, to be honest, but I feel like a lot of Asian countries used this website. Basically, a lot of my family in the Philippines were on it. It was a means of keeping in touch with them.

MySpace came a year later in 2003 and it became what most millennials remember as their first social network . All of us remember that Tom was our first friend. Again, per terms of service I technically wasn’t old enough to use MySpace, but we all know ya’ll lied about the year you were born just to be on this website. We were able to customize our profile page and learned HTML skills. We were able to add music based on our mood of the day and share photos and videos. And when I mention photos, I’d like to think it was the start of the #Selfie. Then came the infamous Top 8+ and end of friendships. It was serious business. Closer to the end of my MySpace life, I didn’t put any friends in my Top 8, only brands and/or “influential” people.

I’m pretty sure I was on MySpace until at least my Freshmen year in college (2007-2008). I remember posting blogs/recaps and whatnot when The Hills was airing on MTV. MySpace started to die at the time and a new social network was starting to emerge. I know you know exactly what I’m referring to.

Facebook, the book full of familiar [and not so familiar] faces, launched in 2004. It was the social network for college kids. Again, I was a teenager and I wasn’t old enough. Now for this website, I think I actually waited until I was of age. We didn’t (and still don’t) have control over customizing our profile, but I think it was the first to successfully launch “statuses”. We were able to say everything we were doing and feeling. Now, we can post pictures, chat, share cute doggy videos, advertise business and so much more to all our friends around the world.

I’d like to think Facebook paved the way for Twitter and Instagram. I mean, Twitter is strictly the status portion of Facebook that limits you to 140 characters. That means you could show off your creativity and wittiness. Whereas, Instagram became a separate photo service for photo lovers all around the world.

Personally, I love Instagram because it allows you to sort of brand yourself through photos. I love Twitter, because I feel like I can communicate with my favorite personalities and actors/actresses. It allows me to have a parasocial relationship. Yes, I’m awkward. I don’t go on Facebook much, but I like to keep it to see what everyone I know is up to.

A Twitter user once said, “Facebook is the people you went to high school with. Twitter is the people you wish you went to high school with.” It makes me laugh every time, but it definitely holds true sometimes most of the time.

What is your social network chronology?

Adele

What’s cooking?

Due to my living situation, I can’t really cook a lot.  With certain limitations and me [and my mom] being shy to go out in the kitchen, we eat out a lot.

I’m pretty sure I’ve gained the weight I lost last year, from eating fast food and going to restaurants almost every day. It’s gotten to the point where I got sick of these food places I frequented. Some days I lose my appetite.

But we’ve found a way to cook a little more without feeling the guilt or pressure from our landlord. I’m pretty excited because I’m going to get the chance to eat a little better and cook what I want to eat.

I bought some ingredients with the intent to make mushroom chicken, but I forgot to get oyster sauce. Today, I ran to the closest store and went straight to the Asian section, but alas, they had run out. So I had to use what was available to me.

A few of my favorite vegetables include squash, so naturally I bought zucchini, Mexican squash, and kabocha. I think I would never get tired of squash, kabocha especially. The kabocha was used yesterday to make Ginataang Kalabasa (Squash in coconut milk), which I must say, was pretty amazing. So today, I wanted to make another squash dish. Because I didn’t have oyster sauce, I opted for some sort of soup.

I’m not great with measurements, but these were the ingredients I used:

  • 1 zucchini
  • 2 Mexican squash
  • 1 package mushrooms
  • bok choy
  • 1 can of chicken broth
  • garlic salt
  • stir fry sauce
  • 1 lb of chicken (pre-cooked)

As far as prep, there isn’t much to cooking vegetables. At least I don’t think so. Make sure you wash everything and get that excess dirt off. Nobody wants a worm crawling around in their soup, although I hear it’s extra protein. Hehe. I try to be funny.

After washing, time to slice! I sliced the zuchinni and mexican squach about 1-inch thick and cut them in halves. The mushrooms came sliced and that’s how I like it. Mushrooms are always so awkward to cut.

I started with boiling water and adding the squash first. I wanted to make sure they were cooked through and soft. Before adding the mushrooms, bok choy, and pre-cooked chicken, I added the can of chicken broth and brought that to a boil.

For taste, I added a few sprinkles of garlic salt. I absolutely love garlic salt with parsley. I season everything with it. I thank whoever decided that was a good combination. Now, because I didn’t have oyster sauce, I used stir fry sauce. It’s not the same, but it gave it a little taste and added some thickness to this so-called soup.

I want to learn how to make traditional Filipino dishes, but I love experimenting with different ingredients when cooking. I mean, what’s better than mixing your favorite things together? It’s always a plus if the dish ends up tasting good.

My mom says she liked it, but she’s a bit biased.

Relationship Status.

Relationship Status: Single.

I’m 28. And the majority of society thinks I should be in a relationship, engaged to be married, and having a baby soon. I want that too, but I’m not going to force it to happen. And people who think that pushing me will make it happen, it won’t. It just makes me more nervous.

My parents were never married. When I was 18, the man who took care of me since I was 3, divorced my mom (and if my mom saw this, she’d probably get super mad at me and tell me to stop talking about this). But the point is, I’m not used to seeing love that lasts forever.

I understand what love is, but I’ve never felt what it’s like to be IN love. I’ve never been in love. I’ve had feelings, obviously. I will always remember my first crush in the 1st grade. My mom always tells me that he told me he loved me and that we were boyfriend and girlfriend. It was puppy love. Then he moved away. And when he came back he apparently didn’t remember me. So that was probably my first heartbreak.

I don’t really remember the crushes I had 2nd – 4th grade, but 5th and 6th grade came another crush. He was my first slow dance and it was to “This I Promise You” by N’Sync. But that became nothing because who has a boyfriend in the 6th Grade. We were friends and then that friendship drifted away.

Then 8th grade I liked my best guy friend at the time. I don’t know why or how that happened. But he was my first “boyfriend”. I got jealous and said stupid things. And that relationship was done immediately. I cried and apologized profusely. But I wasn’t forgiven and our friendship was gone just like that. Who knew that I’d be such a brat in the 8th grade? Relationships were so awkward at that stage.

High school, college, & post college were no different. I crushed on guys and our relationships went nowhere. P.S. I’m looking for people in the long run, not a sprint.

And now here I am, with no relationship. I’m single and not necessarily ready to mingle. Why do I think I’m single?

  • I’m shy. I will never make the first move. I dub myself as pretty awkward, so I definitely don’t want to make that my first impression
  • Dating apps creep me out sometimes considering you really don’t know who you’re talking to behind the phone screen.
  • I rarely go out. How can I meet someone when all I do is work and go home? Where do people meet people?
  • I have high expectations. Yes, I want you to be like the leading men I see in movies and television. 😂
  • I don’t have any expectations. From the examples I have I don’t expect you to stay.
  • I don’t feel like I’m completely satisfied with me. You gotta love yourself before you can love someone else right?

Basically, I’m working on myself. And when I feel like myself, then I’ll feel more confident to get out there and mingle.

I don’t really have time to finish this post, so I definitely feel like I’ll have a part two.

This challenege is a lot harder than I thought.

xoxo,

Adele

A recap of the past week 7.30.17-8.5.17

Doing this challenge, I wanted to make sure I actually put some thought into each post. With work and errand running (and unintentionally falling asleep) I didn’t really have much time this weekend to sit and write. However, I guess that’s the point of this challenge, just write whatever comes to mind and post it.
But today I’m going the easy route and posting a recap of my boring week.

This week marked the end of July & boy, did time fly. I spent last weekend resting and doing absolutely nothing most of the time since the two previous weekends were spent celebrating my birth. [Hot] Las Vegas one week, then two buffets the next. As an introvert, a weekend without human contact is what I needed & I was pretty well rested.

Then Monday came and the routine started again. Wake up, go to work, eat, come home, eat, sleep, and repeat. As always, I looked forward to the weekend as early as Monday. But who doesn’t?

August 1st was when I decided I need to stop being lazy and find motivation.  So honestly, there was really no thought into starting this challenge. Hopefully, this week I’ll also start going back to the gym, too. One step at a time, right?

Also, I bought a mini fridge to put in my room. For those who know my living situation, ya’ll know that this is hopefully a step toward eating better and spending less on eating out!

Hawaiian shirt Friday came & I was counting down to 3:30 p.m. PST. Yup, for some reason Fridays at work became “Hawaiian Shirt Friday”. Don’t know how or why, but I often participate with some floral prints. It kind of influenced my OOTD post. I think I may dedicate each Friday to #FashionFriday. What do you think?

Anyways, then Friday night came and it was a final get together with my two close friends before they jet off to Japan for 3 years. It definitely didn’t feel like a goodbye, but I did end up crying at the end of the night. What’s new? I’m ALWAYS an emotional wreck. I cry over everything and nothing has ever changed. It’s usually because I keep all my emotions in until it’s all too much and then BOOM. But I digress.

Saturday was a somewhat lazy day. I ran errands and had to pick up my mom’s prescription for her eye surgery. We procrastinated and it turns out the pharmacy did not have one of them and neither did any other CVS in town. So they transferred it over to the Walgreens acroos the street because they were the only ones that DID have it. But alas, they have no contract with my mom’s insurance or something so we had to pay a lot for a little thing of eyedrops. Any ideas on what I can do to maybe dispute this with my insurance? Or is it simply our fault for procrastinating?

Anyways, it’s another week. Nothing planned, but I hope things don’t get stressful.

I apologize for the lazy post today. I promise tomorrow I’ll do better!

Adele

What’s in my makeup bag?

Hi everyone! After yesterday’s OOTD post, I figured I’d do somewhat of a follow up post regarding my make up staples and the products I use.

Of new things I’ve been trying to pursue over the last year, make up has been one of them. My mom only wore basic make up, so I wasn’t really taught on how to do my own make up, other than how to apply lipstick.

I remember being in Color Guard freshmen year in high school. We had specific make up shades to buy and when I came to school for our first performance, I had no idea where to start. Luckily, my teammates were around to help. And after a while, I was able to do my basic make up by myself.

Fast forward to the present, with all the contouring and high lighting in the world, I’m far away from being a make up pro. Hell, to be honest I don’t even know how to pick shades that go well on my skin.  A few years ago, I even tried Ipsy. I think I was moreso excited about the cute make up bags because I was so unsure of the products. A lot of products went unused.

But I’m easily influenced and seeing some of my favorite actresses and their application of make up recently, got me inspired again. Lord knows I do not wake up early enough in the morning to put on make up for work, but I do try a little harder when going out.

Enough of me rambling again. This is becoming too repetitive. Here’s what I use the most in my make up bag:

Primer: Master Prime by Maybelline, 200 Blur + Illuminate

I never used to prime my face. I had no idea what primer was used for. Then I got a sample & then I finished that sample and went on looking for another primer. I like Maybelline products, so I decided to try this one. After putting on some moisturizer, I follow with this primer. It makes my skin look smoother and brightens up my face! I’m almost running out, so I’ll have to decide if I’m going to continue with what I’m comfortable with or try something new.

Liquid foundation: True Match by L’Oreal, Sun Beige W6

On the days I make an effort, I use this foundation. Prior to this, I had Maybelline’s Fit Me Foundation. I figured I’d try something new and I definitely like the coverage.

Concealer: Superstay Better Skin Concealer + Correction by Maybelline, Medium

I used this to conceal under my eyes mostly, but I also use it to highlight the T zone.

Concealer: FIT Me concealer by Maybelline, Cafe 30

This is obviously a darker shade than my skin tone, so I use it to try to contour my face, paired with the above concealer.

Pressed Powder: FIT Me by Maybelline, Matte + Poreless 230

When I’m not wearing liquid foundation, I go straight to the powder to look less oily and more natural. I’m pretty committed to this powder. When I have full on make up, I use it as a finish.

Liquid Eyeliner: Line Stiletto by Maybelline, Blackest Black

I dislike pencil eye liner. I always find it very hard to apply and it tends to break. I’ve tried gel liner, but that was hard for me too. So I went with liquid eyeliner. I’m also very committed to this product. It glides on really smoothly and is bold! It lasts pretty long, but can smudge as I rub my eye a lot. And the bottle doesn’t dry up, like I experienced with other liquid liners.

Mascara: Colassal Big Shot Volum’Express by Maybelline, waterproof, Black

I used to use a different Maybelline mascara. I used the purple and the pink one, both of which I loved. I don’t have issues with clumping with the Maybelline mascaras. So I figured I’d try this one. I definitely like the volune I get since my eyelashes are not naturally long.

And there you have it! The basic products I use when I apply make up. I don’t really go for the high end make up since I don’t wear make up every day and I’m not the best at application, but I’m pretty happy with the quality of the products I do own. Clearly, I have a love for Maybelline. Why change things?

What products do you use on a day to day basis?

Dear future…

I was looking at topics to write about today and one of them that came up was, “Where do you see yourself in 10 years?” It got me thinking about those letters we were assigned to write ourselves Freshmen year in high school to our  future Senior self. We were bright eyed teenagers thinking we could do everything and when Senior year came around, we had to think about the real world. And nothing prepared us for that. And that letter you wrote didn’t all come true.

Which takes me to the present, 10 years after graduating, still navigating the real world unprepared. But I have hope that my future self will be okay. I have fears, but I have hope. So here’s my letter to you, future self.

Dear Adele,

It’s been quite a long ten years. You’re almost forty. I’m cringing just thinking about it. But I bet you’re having the all too familiar quarter life crisis you had in your late 20s.

Don’t raise your eyebrows at me. You know exactly what I’m talking about. It probably isn’t as bad as it was 10 years ago, but you have your fears. I mean, come on, you used to be worried about what you were doing in your life. You didn’t know what you wanted to do. You were unsure about your career, your finances, your relationships, and just life in general.

You thought everyone else around you had their lives together and you were the only one who didn’t. But you slowly started to realize that there are a lot of people that felt that way.  And you also started to realize that you had it a lot better than others. The world doesn’t revolve around just you even though you like to joke that it does. But you’re a Leo, so the world does revolve around you. Ha

But all jokes aside, you’re going to be okay. You’re doing great. I’d like to think that at this point, you’ve decided what you want as a career. Maybe your secret dream of becoming an …. has finally come true. But if it hasn’t it’s okay. You’ve learned so many things over these past years. Knowledge is power right?  I just want to remind you to do something that makes you happy.

At this point, you’ve found someone that makes you happy as well. A guy that makes you see that relationships aren’t that scary. And if he’s the one he’s someone who makes you feel loved every day. That’s all a girl could hope for. And from your love, came a bundle of joy (or maybe two babies) that you love unconditionally. Ugh, you’re always such a hopeless romantic, don’t you ever stop being that way. But even if all the above isn’t true and you’re still single AF, you’re probably never gonna find someone 😂 Just kidding!

After that last sentence, I bet you think this letter went in a completely different direction. I’m just here to make you laugh,  really. I’m here to remind you that life’s too short to take everything so seriously.

I’m here to remind you that you’re okay. You’ve got reasons to be happy and reasons to keep going. You’ve got family and friends, so try not to push people away. You’re too old to keep doin’ that shit.

Ew, you’re getting old. I seriously cannot right now.

Xoxo,

Adele

P.S. I hope you’re still a TV/Pop Culture junkie. That’s the only thing you’re ever confident about. It gives you life and makes you smile. Also, keep writing for yourself.

What would you remind your older self?

xoxo,

Adele
