The Teen Choice Awards, a show where teens get to vote on their favorite tv shows, movies, music, & Hollywood personalities, airs tomorrow night! As a 28 year old, I still follow this award show because I watch a lot of the shows that are nominated, listen to the music that usually plays over and over on the radio, and follow the red carpet to see my favorite actors and actresses strut their stuff.
I was able to attend the TCAs 3 times, but alas my chances of being a seatfiller was over 3 years ago due to the cutoff age (25). So today’s post is dedicated to those experiences.
My first time was in 2010. I didn’t neccesarily get to go to the award show itself, but I went to the after party powered by DoSomething.org and Staples. I entered a contest with an online entertainment website. The prize: attend the after party red carpet & interview celebrities. From what I remember, you had to film a video of yourself & say what questions you’d ask the cast of Pretty Little Liars. You better believe I entered that contest.
That day I met Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, & Lucy Hale. I forget what questions I asked them, but meeting Ashley was the best thing ever. She’s been my idol since we were 16. She was nice enough to take a picture with me & I cherish that picture everyday! I also remember meeting Olivia Munn and her telling me that she liked my outfit. I was wearing a pink H&M top and a black Forever 21 skirt.
The 2nd time I attended the TCAs was the year I turned 23. I think that was 2012. I had my “golden” birthday party the night before and made sure the party ended reasonably so I was well rested for the next day. This time I didn’t go alone. I invited three other friends. It was their first time seat filling, and here I was feeling like I knew the ropes. I kind of felt bad that day because of all the waiting being done, but it was a cool show and we had great seats for FREE! I was so jealous of my one friend. He was sitting right behind some of the cast of PLL (Keegan, Sasha, Janel). Me and my other friends were sitting near Rebecca Black. She was pretty chill.
The last time I attended the TCAs, I flew solo and was about 30 minutes late. I had just turned 26, which is past the cut off age of 25. I was driving from San Diego and was stuck in traffic and had no idea where to park. Luck was not on my side that day. I was turned away along with many other people because they overbooked. People had the option to wait, but there was no guarantee. I didn’t wait. But I didn’t drive to LA alone just to drive back home again. I bought myself a ticket. It was about $50 and the seats weren’t bad. The sad thing however was that if I had waited, I probably would’ve gotten a comp ticket. Moral of the story: be on time. But the plus side was that I was allowed to have my cell phone with me and I didn’t have to run around filling seats during a commercial break.
Anyways, I hope Pretty Little Liars wins tomorrow night!
xoxo,
Adele
